Key Stage 4 Options
I am always a little envious when I read our options booklet and compare it to the options or choices I had at the end of Year 9. The wide range of courses and diversity on offer has helped Brixham College’s curriculum to be recognised nationally as an example of a truly personalized curriculum and to be judged as outstanding by Ofsted.
At Brixham College we value all that our students do – our aim is to ensure that we get the right students on the right course at the right time in their lives and this is the first step in achieving this.
It is important that areas of the curriculum and opportunities are not lost at the end of Year 9, and therefore all areas of study are available to choose in Years 10 and 11 according to interest, aptitude and ability. All students have the opportunity to take twelve or more GCSEs.
We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all of our learners, but also offer the flexibility of practical courses in vocational subjects leading to a range of qualifications.
We are delighted to be able to deliver three diplomas at Brixham and provide access to another six diplomas via the Torbay consortium. This will give our students some exciting opportunities and alongside other qualifications will help them to progress towards skilled jobs, universities and further education.
I would recommend that parents and students read this booklet carefully, attend the mini options evenings and the Careers Fayre held at the College and, most importantly, ask questions of the staff at Brixham. We will be more than happy to advise and help.
Good Luck
