Introduction from the Principal

I am delighted to introduce myself to you as the new Principal of Brixham College.

It goes without saying that I feel immensely proud and privileged to have been given the opportunity to lead such an excellent college as Brixham and I am looking forward to a long and happy association with the college and the wider Brixham community. I have held a number of senior positions in a wide range of comprehensive schools in the South West, as Assistant Principal, Deputy Headteacher and Associate Headteacher prior to becoming Principal from 1st September 2009. I now look forward to working to promote the further progress of Brixham College and its students in Torbay and beyond.

Thanks are due to Chris Turner OBE, the previous Principal, and on behalf of the staff and students at Brixham College I would like to wish him all the best success in his new post.

Examination results for 2009 show that 61% of our Year 11 students obtained at least 5 A* - C and 51% achieved 5 A* - C including English and Maths. These are the best results ever for the College and show marked improvement in all areas. These excellent results demonstrate all the hard work undertaken by Brixham students and reflect the dedication and support given by the equally hardworking staff at Brixham College. I am delighted with these results and send my congratulations to all the students and staff.

I have been made most welcome to the college by the staff, students and parents that I have met so far and I cannot help but be hugely excited about the future at Brixham College. In November 2008 the college received a very positive Ofsted Inspection. I believe Brixham College has the potential to continue to build on its success and I look forward to leading the college in its next stage of development from a ‘good school’ to an ‘outstanding’ one.

I look forward to meeting many of you over the course of the coming year whilst continuing to ensure that we provide the high quality of education that is synonymous with Brixham College.
