Welcome

As Principal of Brixham College I would like to thank you for the interest you are taking in our College.  These are exciting times in our community and I am proud and privileged to lead the College at this time.

Brixham College is a very good school with a fantastic learning environment and ethos.  We are rightly proud of being a comprehensive school providing first rate educational opportunities for all children, irrespective of ability or aptitude.

I hope the following introduction gives you some insight into our College.  However, there is nothing like seeing things at first hand and I encourage you to visit the College and see for yourself.  I am confident you will be impressed.

Brixham College is a 11-16 comprehensive Trust school with an excellent record of success in education, sporting and community fields.  Our academic record over the past few years shows sustained high standards.  In 2010 we were recognized nationally as one of the most improved schools for continued academic success.  The College's teachers and support staff have proved time and time again that they are of the highest quality and care about each and every child.  Staff continually go that extra mile to ensure every child achieves their true potential.

We are a College of around 1050 students with a growing number of children choosing Brixham College from outside the catchment area.  Our size means that we are able to offer a wide and varied curriculum.  The pastoral system is strong, based around our four Houses, Venture, Inspire, Pioneer and Phoenix, names taken from some of the first trawlers operating in Brixham waters.  Brixham College is a school where your child will be known and will be able to develop academically and socially with confidence.  Children can only do this if they feel happy, safe and secure.  We have an extensive support network in place to ensure this is the case.

Teaching is a strength of the College and is closely monitored.  This is reflected in our excellent examination results where over the last four years we have had sustained improvement.  Consistently two thirds of our students attain GCSEs at the highest grades leading many onto further education, training and university.  The Maths and English faculties are placed within the top 25% of similar schools in the country and all our students achieve at least five passes at GCSE.  Many of our students have the opportunity to take twelve or more GCSEs in Year 11.

If your child experiences problems of any kind in College all you need to do is contact us and we will make sure that there is someone available to help.  Our students are mature, positive and supportive of each other with a keenness to learn and to achieve at the highest level of their ability.  To help them achieve this we have high standards of behaviour; all students are expected to adhere to our expectations and boundaries.  Parental support plays a vital role in helping us achieve the best for every students and we work in partnership with home.

The College prides itself on the links it has forged with the local community of Brixham, and parents have always found us to be a welcoming school.  Through our X-tra factor, international status and specialist visual arts status, the range of extended activities and opportunities is outstanding which will ensure your child's educational journey is successful, enjoyable and one which they will look back on with great fondness.
